Toddler Shot in Channelview, Life Flighted in Critical Condition

CHANNELVIEW, Texas — A toddler is in critical condition after being shot Friday afternoon in the Channelview area, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a home in the 700 block of Onaleigh Drive near Woodforest Boulevard after reports that a young child had been shot. Authorities say the shooting appears to have been accidental.

According to officials, the child, believed to be around 3 years old, suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to the hospital by Life Flight. The child was reported to be in critical condition.

Crime scene investigators and detectives responded to the scene and the investigation is ongoing. Officials have not released additional details about how the shooting happened or who owned the weapon.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office says this remains an active investigation and more information is expected to be released as the investigation continues.

UPDATE: As of 4:00PM, the child is not doing as well as hoped, according to HCSO Captain Haberland.
