Dr. Candice Matthews Confronts Conditions at La Casita Apartments as Management Refuses to Answer Questions

Dr. Candice Matthews, a well-known activist, confronted troubling conditions at the La Casita Apartments in Houston on Monday morning.

She reported rat infestations, mold, a live bird’s nest inside a tenant’s bathroom vent, and numerous other unsafe living conditions.

When Dr. Matthews attempted to speak with apartment management, one employee ran out the back door, prompting a brief foot pursuit.

Other members of management declined to comment, leaving frustrated tenants, many of whom say they are paying more than $1,000 a month, without answers about the conditions they are living in.
