Activist, Journalists & Houston Health Dept. Visit Horrific Apartment Complex
Earlier today, multiple news outlets joined civil rights activist Dr. Candice Matthews and representatives from the Houston Health Department at the Dyersdale Village Apartments, located at 9700 Mesa Drive in Houston, to highlight concerns over reported living conditions at the property.
The visit followed complaints from residents who alleged unsafe and unsanitary conditions inside the apartment complex. Upon arrival, members of the media were asked by apartment management to leave the property. However, journalists had already been invited onto the premises by multiple residents, which permitted continued access.
After being invited inside several apartment units, reporters observed what appeared to be widespread health and safety hazards. Conditions documented during the visit included roach and rat infestations, raw sewage inside living spaces, and other issues that residents say have gone unresolved. Residents expressed concerns that the conditions pose serious health risks, particularly to children and elderly tenants.
Representatives from the Houston Health Department were present to observe the conditions firsthand. It is unclear at this time what enforcement actions, if any, may result from the visit.
Management for Dyersdale Village Apartments declined to provide comment regarding the allegations or the conditions observed.
Video from the visit and footage from inside the apartments is included below.
