Civil Rights Activist Announces Judicial Complaints
HOUSTON, TX – Civil rights advocate Dr. Candice Matthews held a press conference on February 3, 2026 to announce that formal judicial complaints have been filed against two Harris County judges. The complaints target Judge Dedra Davis of the 270th District Court and Judge Damiane Dianne Curvey, who oversees a Protective Order Court.
Matthews says the complaint against Judge Davis arises from an incident on or about January 27, 2026 when Davis allegedly conducted a Facebook Live broadcast from the bench discussing courtroom matters. According to Matthews, this conduct violates the Texas Code of Judicial Conduct by compromising judicial impartiality and engaging in public commentary on active court matters.
A separate complaint has been filed against Judge Curvey alleging civil rights violations and improper courtroom behavior. Supporters at the press conference claimed Curvey restricted public access to proceedings, issued protective orders in retaliation, and engaged in conduct undermining public confidence in the judicial system.
Speakers at the event also raised concerns about Judge Curvey’s name history prior to taking the bench and questioned whether past disciplinary issues were sufficiently transparent.
Court watchers attending the press conference said the complaints, supported by court transcripts and notarized documents, were submitted to the Texas State Commission on Judicial Conduct. They are calling for both judges to be removed from the bench and indicated that more complaints could follow.
At this time neither Judge Davis nor Judge Curvey has issued a public response to the allegations.
