"Rogue Judge" Recused From Dr Matthews Protective Order Case

HOUSTON — Dr. Candice Matthews is praising the recusal of Judge Damiane Dianne Curvey from an ongoing legal matter, calling the decision a step toward fairness, accountability, and public trust in Harris County courts.

Speaking after the recusal, Dr. Matthews credited Harris County Administrative Judge Susan Brown with signing the order. She argued that Judge Curvey should have stepped away from the case sooner, citing what Matthews described as a conflict of interest.

“The days of weaponizing our courts are done,” Dr. Matthews said, while criticizing what she characterized as misuse of the judicial system in Harris County.

Matthews also accused Judge Curvey of discussing closed and sealed records that Matthews said were not publicly known. She further alleged that Judge Curvey was aware of a conflict of interest but refused to recuse herself. Matthews also accused the judge of “coaching from the bench” and said she plans to file an additional complaint with the Texas State Commission on Judicial Conduct.

According to Matthews, the recusal order signed by Judge Susan Brown will allow the matter to proceed before a different judge.

Judge Curvey has not publicly responded to the allegations. The matter remains ongoing.
