Houston Political Operative With Violent Criminal Past Paid Nearly $250K By Texas Politicians
HOUSTON, Texas – Houston political operative Aubrey Taylor is once again under scrutiny after campaign finance records revealed that his company, Aubrey R. Taylor Communications, received nearly $250,000 from Southeast Texas political candidates and committees over multiple election cycles.
Records reviewed show a total of $247,939 in payments distributed over several years to Taylor’s communications entity through various political campaigns and organizations.
The renewed attention comes amid statements from activist and political commentator Dr. Candice Matthews, who is urging voters and public officials to closely examine who receives campaign dollars and the backgrounds of individuals involved in local politics.
Taylor has long been a controversial figure in Houston political circles. Public records reflect a criminal history that includes convictions that have drawn criticism from opponents and political watchdogs.
In a public statement, Dr. Matthews said the issue extends beyond party affiliation and instead centers on transparency and accountability.
“The public deserves transparency and accountability from those who seek public trust and those who choose to do business with political campaigns,” Matthews said.
“For years, Aubrey Taylor has been a controversial figure in local political circles. Public records reflect a history of legal troubles and court involvement that voters and candidates should carefully review for themselves.”
Matthews went on to say that candidates and elected officials should exercise greater caution before hiring political consultants or strategists.
“In my opinion, political candidates, elected officials, and campaign organizations should exercise extreme caution before associating with or financially supporting individuals whose backgrounds may raise serious questions about judgment, credibility, and character,” she said.
Matthews also disclosed that her team is currently reviewing information provided by a woman who has made additional allegations against Taylor. She emphasized that those claims have not been proven in court and are being independently evaluated.
“These allegations have not been proven in a court of law, and we are treating them as allegations while conducting our own review,” Matthews said. “The information provided to us allegedly includes communications, text message exchanges, and other materials that we believe warrant further examination.”
She added that if credible evidence of criminal conduct is uncovered, law enforcement agencies should investigate.
“If credible evidence of criminal conduct is established, we encourage the appropriate law enforcement authorities to investigate,” Matthews said.
Matthews repeatedly stressed that her concerns are not rooted in partisan politics.
“This is not about politics. This is about standards,” she said.
“Whether you are a Republican, Democrat, Independent, or nonpartisan voter, the community has a right to know who is being paid with campaign dollars and who is being elevated as a political consultant, strategist, or operative.”
Matthews also reminded the public that campaign finance reports are public records available for review.
“Campaign finance reports are public records, and we will continue monitoring those reports and informing the public about the individuals receiving political funds,” she said.
She closed her statement by issuing a message directly to candidates and officeholders.
“Conduct your due diligence. Review the backgrounds of the people you hire, promote, and financially support. The public deserves leaders who surround themselves with individuals who reflect integrity, accountability, and professionalism.”
“Our commitment remains the same: facts, transparency, and accountability regardless of political party. No individual should be immune from public scrutiny simply because they have political connections.”
Matthews said her organization intends to continue reviewing public records and will release additional verified information as it becomes available.
Taylor had not publicly responded to Matthews’ latest statement at the time of publication.
