HPD Fires Racist Cop
HOUSTON, TX — The Houston Police Department has officially terminated Officer Ashley Gonzalez following public backlash and calls for accountability from community activists.
In a statement released by HPD, the department confirmed Gonzalez is no longer employed as of today.
“The Houston Police Department (HPD) has terminated the employment of Ashley Gonzalez. As of today, she is no longer an employee of the department. HPD holds every officer to the highest standards of integrity and conduct, and will not waver in upholding these expectations,” the department said.
HPD also stated that Gonzalez was immediately relieved of duty after the incident came to light and that an internal investigation was conducted in accordance with state civil service laws.
“After discovering the incident, Ashley Gonzalez was immediately relieved of duty. In compliance with state civil service laws, an investigation was conducted as fast as legally possible,” the statement continued.
Houston Police Chief J. Noe Diaz, Jr. strongly condemned Gonzalez’s actions.
“The behavior exhibited by Ashley Gonzalez was abhorrent, disgusting, and entirely unacceptable,” Diaz said. “It is deeply disturbing and has no place in law enforcement or in our community.”
The termination follows a protest outside HPD headquarters led by activist Quanell X and Dr. Candice Matthews, where demonstrators demanded Gonzalez be fired.
Both Quanell X and Dr. Matthews criticized the officer’s conduct and called for immediate termination, saying anything less would undermine public trust. During the protest, Dr. Matthews also called for a review of Gonzalez’s past interactions and encouraged anyone who may have had contact with the former officer to come forward.
While Gonzalez’s termination marks a significant development, activists say their efforts are not over. They continue to push for further accountability, including examining prior cases involving the former officer and ensuring appropriate oversight moving forward.
