Zion Branch, 19, Killed After Truck Crashes Into Atascocita Nothing Bundt Cakes

ATASCOCITA, Texas – Nineteen-year-old Zion Branch was killed Tuesday afternoon after a pickup truck crashed through the front of a Nothing Bundt Cakes bakery in Atascocita, where she was working, leaving several others injured and a community mourning the loss of a young woman described by loved ones as kind, hardworking, and full of promise.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred shortly after 3 p.m. at the Nothing Bundt Cakes location in the 19200 block of West Lake Houston Parkway. Investigators said a 77-year-old man was attempting to park his blue Dodge Ram when his foot reportedly slipped from the brake onto the accelerator, sending the truck through the front of the bakery.

Authorities said Branch was standing near the front counter when the truck entered the building. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Four other people were injured in the crash. One customer was transported to a local hospital, while several others were treated at the scene. Five employees working in the back of the bakery were not injured.

Family members said Branch had recently graduated from Sconzo Early College High School and was working at the bakery while saving money to continue her college education this fall. They remembered her as a dedicated young woman with a bright future ahead of her.

Harris County Sheriff’s Office Major Anthony McConnell described the incident as a heartbreaking tragedy. Authorities said the driver remained at the scene, cooperated with investigators, and showed no signs of intoxication. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division continues to investigate the crash.

Nothing Bundt Cakes released a statement offering condolences to Branch’s family, friends, coworkers, and everyone affected by the tragedy. The company said its priority is supporting employees and loved ones during this difficult time, and the Atascocita location remains temporarily closed.

The sudden loss of Zion Branch has prompted an outpouring of grief across the Atascocita community, where many are remembering a young woman whose life was tragically cut short while simply doing her job.
