Dr. Candice Matthews Backs Brandon Bartie in Jefferson County JP Race Amid Allegations Against Incumbent
JEFFERSON COUNTY, TX — Texas activist Dr. Candice Matthews appeared at polling locations in Jefferson County on Tuesday, where she publicly voiced allegations against incumbent Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 Judge Joseph Guillory and endorsed his opponent, Brandon Bartie.
Dr. Matthews alleged that Judge Guillory previously summoned her with what she described as a fraudulent peace bond earlier this year. During her appearance at the polls, Matthews called the matter “personal” and urged voters to support Bartie in the race for Justice of the Peace Precinct 2.
The endorsement and allegations added heightened attention to an already competitive local election.
As election results began coming in Tuesday night, KDFM News projected Brandon Bartie to defeat incumbent Joseph Guillory. As of approximately 8:30 p.m. on May 26, Bartie was projected to receive 55 percent of the vote, while Guillory was projected to receive 45 percent.
The race marked a significant challenge for Guillory, who entered the election as the incumbent officeholder.
As of Tuesday evening, neither Judge Guillory nor his campaign had publicly responded to the allegations made by Dr. Matthews.
Election results remain unofficial until canvassed and certified by local election officials.
