Dr. Candice Matthews Alleges Judge Curvey Used Campaign Funds to Hire Operative to Target Her Critics

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Dr. Candice Matthews announced plans to file additional judicial complaints against Harris County Judge Damiane Dianne Curvey, alleging the judge improperly used campaign funds to hire a political operative who publicly targeted Matthews and other critics.

During a press conference outside the Harris County Civil Courthouse, Matthews claimed the individual was retained to conduct opposition research and engage in online attacks against people who had raised concerns about Judge Curvey’s conduct. Matthews argued that if campaign resources were used for those purposes, the actions could raise ethical and legal questions.

Matthews said the allegations are part of a broader pattern of behavior she believes undermines public trust in the judiciary. She indicated that she intends to submit additional complaints to the Texas State Commission on Judicial Conduct and other appropriate oversight agencies.

The dispute stems from an ongoing series of public disagreements involving Matthews and Judge Curvey that have escalated over recent months. Matthews has previously accused the judge of conflicts of interest, improper courtroom conduct, and failing to recuse herself from matters in which impartiality could be questioned.

During her remarks, Matthews said judges should remain above political retaliation and that critics should not fear being targeted for speaking out about concerns involving the judicial system. She called for greater transparency surrounding campaign expenditures and urged independent review of any questionable spending.

At the time of the allegations, Judge Curvey had not publicly responded to the claims. No court or regulatory agency had independently verified Matthews’ accusations, and no findings of wrongdoing had been announced.

The matter remains ongoing.
