HPD Fatally Shoots Armed Man Outside Southwest Freeway Hotel

A man was shot and killed by officers with the Houston Police Department late Sunday night outside a hotel along the Southwest Freeway.

According to preliminary information released by police, officers responded to a report of a man firing shots inside a hotel room at 11050 Southwest Freeway.

When officers arrived, authorities say the male suspect exited the hotel carrying a rifle. Officers immediately began issuing verbal commands, but police say the suspect did not comply.

Officers then discharged their weapons, striking the suspect. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

No officers were injured during the incident.

The investigation remains ongoing. Additional details, including the identity of the suspect and what led up to the reported gunfire inside the hotel room, are expected to be released as the investigation continues.
